Skincare goodie: Chamomile

Hello there!
As summer continues to bear down on most parts of the Northern Hemisphere, we're bringing some calm to all you Plumsters this week. Today's blog is an ode to one of our cutest, prettiest Plum ingredients: CHAMOMILE. Read on to discover the goodness of this beauty (and win lucky prizes)!

Plum's latest Chamomile & White Tea range has been designed specially for complete sun care. Chamomile is one amazing little flower that packs in quite a punch to help your skin look radiant and also protect it from sun damage.

What is Chamomile?

Chamomile is not one flower, but a common name for a family of daisy-like flowers. The chamomile that we at Plum use is German chamomile or Matricaria recutita. This flower grows wild and looks pretty similar to the common daisy. When dried, it is used to make herb infusions which are highly beneficial for your body. Both fresh and dried flowers of chamomile plants are used to create the much talked about & loved – chamomile tea.

Beauty Benefits of Chamomile:
Anti-oxidant properties

Chamomile is a powerhouse of anti-oxidants. It is also rich in flavonoids. Together, these penetrate deep into the skin and work wonders - for starters, the compounds found in chamomile have been shown to have anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial and anti-irritant properties.

Interestingly, this also makes it pretty effective in fighting acne, just like how green tea works; and recent research has shown chamomile to be helpful in reducing acne scars as well.

Sun protection

If you are looking for a natural way to protect your skin from sun damage, then chamomile is a must in your arsenal. It's great for post-sun application & its anti-inflammatory properties are well proven to soothe and protect sun-burnt skin. If you missed our last FAQ post on sun protection, you can catch it here.

Help with dark spots

Dark spots on skin are chiefly caused by oxidation (remember free radicals and oxidation?). Chamomile helps prevent this by protecting your skin from the damage caused by free radicals.

Reducing flakiness of skin

When applied on skin, chamomile has a gentle conditioning effect. That helps it soften the skin and look less flaky and uneven.

Micro-healing damaged skin

Some key flavonoids in chamomile help reduce irritation and redness, and also possess anti-microbial properties. That's a great recipe to micro-heal damaged skin at the cellular level!

Aromatherapy

Chamomile has an unmistakably soothing, faint, lingering aroma that is supremely calming to the senses (chamomile tea, anyone?). Few other flowers have this ability to calm and influence one's senses without overpowering them!

Hats off to Chamomile!

We are totally in love with chamomile for all the goodness it brings - along with its addictive aroma. Which is why we found it just perfect to include it in our sun care range. We also combined it with a bunch of other powerful antioxidants, including White Tea, to create quite a powerhouse of sun care products.

You can browse our Chamomile & White Tea range here to get your dose of goodness!
