Hey Plumster,
Ever caught a whiff of something so amazing, that it instantly transported you to a different world?
Well, that’s the magic of fragrance.
A good scent can boost your mood, amp up your confidence and can even be the perfect finishing touch to any outfit.
But with so many tempting options out there, navigating the fragrance world can feel like solving an ancient puzzle, right?
But fear not. I’ve got your back. In today’s “Beauty Simplified” issue, let’s dive into a very popular question: Body mist or perfume?
The Allure of Body Mists
Picture this: a gentle breeze carrying a heavenly fragrance, or something that reminds you of your favorite floral note, or maybe even, the aroma of a cupcake baking.
That's the vibe of a body mist – a light, airy fragrance, perfect for everyday wear.
It's like the ballerina of the fragrance world: graceful and subtle adding a touch of elegance without overpowering the room.
But here’s the key - timing is everything!
When’s the best time for a body mist?
Prepping for a Big Day: A quick spritz before a presentation can instantly lift your spirits and confidence.
Beating the Blahs: Monday morning? A touch of your favorite scent can work wonders for your mood.
Post-Shower Refresh: Spritzing onto damp skin allows the fragrance to meld beautifully, creating a subtle yet long-lasting aura.
And now when you’re well-versed with body mists, let’s move to perfumes.
The Power Player: A Statement Maker in a Bottle
Packed with a higher concentration of fragrant oils, perfumes offer a bolder, more enduring scent.
Think of them as the red carpet-worthy gowns of the fragrance world – a statement piece that commands attention.
So, when should you apply perfumes?
Special Occasions: A spritz of your signature perfume can elevate your evening attire and impression.
A Long Day Out: Perfumes boast superior staying power, keeping you smelling fabulous throughout the day (or night!).
Additionally, you wanna make heads turn as soon as you enter a room? Target your pulse points (wrists, inner elbows) for a more effective and long-lasting
stay.
But going back to the question :
Which one is better? Body mist or perfume?
Honestly, there's no single "winner" in the body mist vs. perfume battle!
Both offer unique benefits and cater to different situations.
Think of them as tools in your fragrance arsenal – body mists for everyday elegance and perfumes for those show-stopping moments.
But, here’s the tricky part!
How do you choose the perfect fragrance for you?
Consider your skin type (sensitive souls, opt for gentler options; the rest, anything works!), and scent preference.
Do you like fruity or floral? What about something that makes you smell like cupcakes or beaches and more?
And of course, consider the occasion. I suggest using fruity and floral for the day and muskier notes at night.
And here’s the last word!
The world of fragrance is personal and playful.
Experiment with different scents, discover what makes you feel confident and beautiful, and let your unique fragrance story unfold!
To know more, read the detailed blog here .
P.S. The secret to enhancing the longevity of your fragrance?
Layer your fragrances!
To get a long-lasting, unforgettable fragrance appearance, layer your body mist with a perfume of the same scent on your pulse points. (you can indulge in shower gels and body lotions too!)
With love,
Divya

Hey Plumster a.k.a #GirlBoss,
Today, you’re probably being flooded with messages and emails which are empowering and some that are ‘changing the narrative’.😉
But amidst this flood, we want to take a moment to celebrate and resonate with not just women, but you – 50 SHADES of YOU!
‘Girl Power’ takes countless forms, from the avid bookworm soaking up knowledge to the mesmerizing dancer captivating the stage with a sun-kissed glow.
We're the dream-weaving artists and the star-reaching scientists, each contributing a unique brushstroke to paint the world with our aspirations.
That just goes to say that ‘one size fits all’ doesn’t really exist anymore. In fact, we're rocking the "right kinda baggage" of experiences, each unique and empowering.
We're “darin' but carin'”, building each other up and showing the world what “boss mode” truly looks like. We cry and laugh and even announce “Pushpa I love tears”, unapologetically and freely.
So, especially today, dust off your "main character energy" and embrace your "me o'clock"!😉
Whether it's “pursuing your nappyness” (because self-care is essential, girl!), or “calling the shots” in the boardroom, remember: you are powerful, unique, and you are unstoppable!
With this same crazy energy, we at Plum, are celebrating the diversity of our #GirlSquad who inspire and slay, with red lips & w(h)ine sips every single day.
We’re celebrating the fact that women can be vulnerable yet powerful, delicate yet resilient, and all this at the same time. Because, let's face it, who says a “keen queen” can't also be a softie with a heart of gold?
And so, we took all the above, poured it in a bottle and called it ‘50 shades of women’! Coz this fragrance captures the fun, boldness, confidence, sassiness, strength, and 45 other magnificent details, that define each one of us.
Skillfully formulated (for 6 whole months) with notes of raspberry, bergamot, patchouli, and vanilla, this fragrance is here to celebrate your bold femininity and contrasting blends of womanhood.
Cause’ we “gotta groww with godfidence”.
What else can I say? Embrace your individuality and raise a glass (or a teacup), to EVERY aspect of being a woman!
Cheers! And I had to say it (however cliché) - Happy Women’s Day. 😊

SPF: here’s how to look beyond the number

SPF: here’s how to look beyond the number
23rd February, 2024
Hey Plumster,
Do you often find yourself squinting at sunscreen labels?
Wondering if the SPF number printed on the tube truly holds weight, or if it's just another marketing ploy?
If yes, this issue of “Beauty Simplified” (your weekly beauty bulletin🧾), will answer your questions.
I’m sure, for a lot of us, choosing sunscreen can be quite a challenge, especially if not well-versed with reading labels.
For instance, on a sunscreen label, there are filters, SPF, ingredients, and a list of other specifications that can make this as difficult as choosing a career option!
On the other hand, it can be much easier to pick sunscreens if you know what exactly the text on these labels mean and what exactly is their role in sun protection.
So, let’s start with UV rays.
What are UV rays?
UV or ultraviolet rays are electromagnetic radiation emitted from the sun. There are two types- UVA and UVB.
Together, they can cause sunburn, hyperpigmentation, premature aging and other forms of damage to skin. UVA rays form 95% of the UV radiation which reaches the earth and can penetrate deep into our skin.
UVB rays have a shorter wavelength and can only reach the outer layer of your skin called the epidermis.
You need a good sunscreen to protect your skin from UVA and UVB rays.
Now to clear up the confusion that most of us have, let’s understand - What is SPF?
SPF stands for Sun Protection Factor.
SPF is a number that corresponds to the ability of your sunscreen to protect your skin against UVB rays. The higher the number, the better!
However, the amount of UVB protection offered is not directly proportional - i.e., SPF 50 is not twice as strong as SPF 25. Instead, the amount of protection it offers increases gradually.
For instance, while SPF 35 blocks approximately 97% of UVB rays, SPF 50 blocks approximately 98% of UVB rays.
Generally, as a thumb rule, you must apply an SPF of 35 or more.
However, given India's intense sun exposure, there’s a preference for using sunscreen with an SPF of 50 and above.
And the story doesn’t end here!
Your sunscreen is effective only if it protects you against both UVA and UVB rays. And that's where the importance of a PA rating comes into play.
So, what is PA?
PA stands for ‘Protection Grade of UVA’. It's a scorecard of your sunscreen’s ability to protect against UVA rays (a greater number of pluses (+) equals higher protection).
Like SPF, it ranges from low to extremely high, with dermatologists suggesting a minimum PA rating of +++ or above.
Therefore, how does one choose sunscreen?
While choosing sunscreen, be sure to pick a broad-spectrum sunscreen which means it ensures comprehensive protection against both UVA and UVB rays.
Even when you are indoors, opt for a minimum SPF of 35 with a PA +++ rating, as UV rays can travel through windowpanes and clouds as well.
But for those beach vacations and street shopping under the sun, nothing lower than SPF 50 PA+++ will suffice!
And like I keep saying, sunscreen is not an option, but a necessity for your skin.
So, never skip using that sunscreen. 😊

There’s more!
They're less likely to trigger allergies, skin irritation, or discomfort, making them your skin's true friend.

Hey Plumsters,🌸
Welcome to the latest issue of "Beauty Simplified" where I answer your questions and debunk viral myths.
In today's issue, let’s learn about another mind-blogging topic -
face serum,⚗️
the newbie that has taken the skincare world by storm.
I am here to simplify them for you and answer all your what, why, and which about them!
Let's get started 🚎
What are face serums?
Face serums are lightweight skincare products containing a higher concentration of active ingredients. They address specific skincare concerns and provide various benefits depending on their ingredients.
Moreover, they also hydrate and brighten your skin, clear dark spots, reduce acne, and give you an even skin tone.🧴
What are the different types of face serums? *
Surely, you now understand the various serums and their benefits.
But with so many choices, it can feel like picking a favorite ice cream flavor at an avant-garde gelato shop🍦
But nothing to worry about, I’m here to help you.
How to pick the right face serum?
Here are some factors you need to consider while looking for a face serum for your skin:
🫠Skin concern:
Different actives work on specific skin issues.
For instance,
✔️If you dream of brighter and glowing skin, you can pick brightening serums like niacinamide and Vitamin C.
✔️If your skin is dry, you need hydrating serums like a hyaluronic acid serum.
✔️For youthful skin, you can opt for anti-aging serums like retinol and resveratrol.
✔️If your pain point is acne and blackheads, use an acne-fighting serum like salicylic acid.
Identifying your concern will help zero down the ingredients you need.
🫠Age:
Your choice of serums should also be determined by your age -
⭐In your 20s, you can opt for hyaluronic acid and niacinamide for adequate hydration and nourishment.
⭐In your 30s, you might need a retinol serum to fight off signs of aging.
🫠Skin type:
You can also pick a serum by identifying your skin type.
📌Hyaluronic acid works best for dry and dehydrated skin.
📌For oily and acne-prone skin, you need acne-fighting serums like salicylic acid, and AHA and BHA.
📌For Normal skin, you can pick a hydrating or brightening serum.
Should you try them?
Definitely! Face serums can elevate your skincare by targeting your skin concerns better and acting faster.
It can effectively treat your skin concerns and help you achieve clear and glowing skin.
(Psst...Take my word for it - they are not a marketing fad but your skin’s true friend!).
Still confused? Learn more about face serums in the detailed blog here.
*Remember to always do a patch test before using any face serum.
Always follow up your routine with moisturizer and sunscreen, because, just like pizza🍕 and cheese🧀, they're better together.
Be Good!🍀

Should you really apply sunscreen every day?
20th January , 2023

Should you really apply sunscreen every day?
20th January , 2023
Hey Plumsters,
I am back with the next issue of ‘Beauty Simplified’ where we answer your beauty questions and debate on viral topics. For this week, I am going to talk about the basic yet most-talked-about query:
Do you really need sunscreens daily?😕
Honestly, dermatologists and beauty magazines have always emphasized the importance of using sunscreen every day, but like many of you, I paid little attention.
I always thought why spend on sunscreens when I am exposed to the sun for hardly a few minutes in a day? After all, our mothers and grandmothers were never so bothered about sunscreens and had great skin, right?
Well, it seems like I was so Wrong, all along!
So, after the noise around sunscreens grew loud, I decided to delve into it myself.
(well, one major reason for this deep dive was a study that said that using sunscreens daily is the easiest way to look younger, piquing my interest. After all, who doesn't want to look forever young without indulging in anti-aging routines? 🙄) right?
After reading tons of medical journals and talking to a couple of dermatologists, (my father is a doctor, bruh!😛, I have access!!)
Here are the three findings that changed me from anti-sunscreen to ultra-pro sunscreen😁
1. Sunscreen is more than a cosmetic
Sunscreen is a photoprotective skincare product that shields your skin against the harmful UV radiation of the sun.
Basically, there are two types of sunscreens:
- Physical sunscreens Physical blockers contain titanium oxide or zinc oxide grounded in fine particles. They stay on your skin’s surface and deflect the UV rays away from the skin like a mirror.
- Chemical/mineral sunscreen
These contain organic or carbon ingredients that form a layer over your skin and absorb the sun rays before they get a chance to penetrate your skin (just like a sponge🧽)
I realized that a hybrid sunscreen is the best kind as has the goodness of both types.
2. Sunscreens can significantly improve your skin’s health.
Sunscreens literally act as a dome over your skin against dangerous UV radiation that can cause SKIN CANCER. (trust me, I am not kidding)
Therefore, it effectively :
🌟 Makes you look younger (read the study here)
🌟 Prevents premature aging, keeping away wrinkles, fine lines, and sagging.
🌟 Prevents uneven skin tone, dark spots, and patchy skin.
🌟 And oh yes, saves your skin from sunburns.
1. The more SPF you use, the better the protection.
SPF or Sun Protection Factor is the numerical measure of how well a sunscreen can protect your skin from UVA rays. On the other hand, PA+++ protects your skin against UVB rays. While the minimum SPF required for sun protection is 30, dermatologists suggest using sunscreens with at least an SPF of 50 PA +++ for the Indian subcontinent for complete protection against harmful UV rays.
But should you really use it every day?
YES, YES, and YES! (without any second thoughts!)
Here are some interesting facts about sun rays that convinced me to use sunscreens daily if I want to look younger and have healthy skin:
☀️UV rays are present on cloudy days as well.
🌞UV rays travel through GLASS WINDOWS!
🌞The ozone layer that filters the harmful UV and UB sun rays is much WEAKER and thinner and thus less capable of saving you than it was years ago.
This is why you must apply sunscreen daily, wherever you are, and whatever season it is.
Final takeaway
“Do you need sunscreen daily?”
Whenever this question pops up in your mind, think about how our body needs water.
Even if you do not feel thirsty, or it's raining or cold, your body still needs enough water to function. If you do not drink water, you can get dehydrated and fall sick.
The same goes for sunscreen. Come what may, you must apply sunscreen EVERY DAY to prevent sun damage, which is not always visible until it's too late.
I found out that 2% Niacinamide & Rice Water Hybrid Sunscreen not only has SPF 50 PA+++ but also brightens your skin in the process. You can explore the other sunscreens based on your skin type here.
To know more about how to choose sunscreen for your skin, when to apply it, and more, read our detailed blog here.
Stay tuned for the next issue of Beauty Simplified where I have another exciting topic to discuss with you!
Till then,

Flaky scalp? Is it dandruff or dryness?
24th November, 2023
Hey Plumsters🌸,
Winter is almost at the door, and for this week of ‘Beauty Simplified’, I am here to talk about the most common hair concern that often tags along with this cold season -
dandruff!🤮
Flaky scalp? Is it dandruff or dryness?
Hey Plumsters🌸,
24th November, 2023
Winter is almost at the door, and for this week of ‘Beauty Simplified’, I am here to talk about the most common hair concern that often tags along with this cold season -
dandruff!🤮
(Or is it really dandruff?❓)
Witnessing flakiness? Hold on, it might not be dandruff!
Trust me, winters can be the worst nightmare for your hair, (or am I just unlucky?😏).
While I can smoothly flip my hair just like the models from the TV commercials for the entire year, as soon as I put on my sweaters and jackets, it takes a drastic U-turn, showing me attitude with frizz and hair fall. (Insert: your backstabbing frenemy!)
Honestly, I can still somehow manage these symptoms, but the personal snowfall❄️ that I see on my outfits every time I brush my hair is something I completely hate about this holiday season! (I am talking about flakes, bruh!)
So, after spending a couple of weeks on home remedies and “influencer-approved” hacks, this year, I finally took the trip to the dermatologist, fearing the worst. (Hi, Anxiety!)
Thankfully, my dermat saved the day. 🥰
While I was dreading dandruff, it was a relief to know that my scalp was just going through a phase of extreme dryness and not dandruff (phew!).
(Isn’t flakiness always a sign of dandruff? What the heck is a dry scalp, right?)
Wrong!
Dandruff and dry scalp, though they seem the same, are significantly different in terms of symptoms, causes, and line of treatments. But how?
Let’s start with the basics.
What is a dry scalp?
A dry scalp is just the same as dry skin. Simple!
When your scalp gets excessively dry and is inadequately moisturized, it gets irritated and flaky.
How will you identify a dry scalp?
If you have a dry scalp, you will see small white flakes falling from your hair, every time you scrub or itch your scalp.
You may or may not have itchiness, depending on the dryness level.
What do you need to do?
Nourish your scalp!
- Use gentler hair products that do not strip off the natural oils from your hair while still washing away the grime. 🧴
- You can indulge in a weekly deep oil massage that nourishes your scalp and hair. (Bonus: hair growth and silky hair)💆
Try the Olive & Macadamia Nutri-Shield Pre-Shampoo Hair Oil that deeply nourishes your hair and scalp without being sticky.
What is dandruff?
Technically speaking, dandruff is a mild skin condition caused by the overproduction of oil and fungus on your scalp.
No, this fungus doesn’t mean you’re not taking care of yourself, everyone’s scalp has them.
However, for those with naturally oily scalps, these fungi thrive a little too well on the excess sebum, which results in dead skin cells clumping together to form white or yellow flakes.
What does dandruff look like?
If you suffer from dandruff, you will witness more and bigger flakes than usual that can be oily and yellow.
If your condition is serious, you could also notice red, scaly scalp, significant itchiness, and hair fall. (Yikes!)
What do you need to do?
If you have mild dandruff, don't miss out on your hair wash day! (even on days you just want to be a messy panda🐼)
- Use a specialised dandruff shampoo and exfoliate gently to remove dead skin and oil build-up regularly.
- Avoid using too many products on your scalp to prevent further build-up.
- Try using a dandruff control treatment.
- And, if your condition doesn't improve despite making these changes, get medical aid.
I suggested the tree tea range to my sister which includes a mild shampoo, scalp scrub, scalp serum and conditioner. (It worked and I got her new dress as a reward for solving her issue 😉)
How are they different?
Let's get back to the main question. How do you differentiate between the two?
Well, the best way to differentiate between the two is to observe your flakes.
- If the flakes are small and dry, you have dryness.
- On the other hand, if the flakes feel oily to touch, you have dandruff.
Symptoms | Dandruff | Dry scalp |
---|---|---|
Itchy scalp | Yes | May or may not |
Scalp appearance | Oily, may be red or inflamed | Scaly, dry |
Types of flakes | Large and oily, either yellow or white in appearance | Smaller, dry |
Takeaway
Dry scalp and dandruff are NOT the same. It is important to know the difference because by not correctly identifying them, you might end up opting for the wrong line of treatment, resulting in more issues.
Though I wish, you never have to face either of the two, star this email and come back every time you witness fresh snowfall on your outfits, and read the detailed blog for more information. Might as well subscribe to our newsletter and share with your loved ones too. 😊

Green Tea or Salicylic Acid? Which is the better pimple fighter?🤨
November 3, 2023
🌟Hello Plumsters, 🌟We're back with another edition of 'Beauty Simplified,'📋 where we discuss common skincare vows and look for their sure-shot remedies.
Today, we're here to find the solution to the skin’s worst nightmare-
ACNE…
Ever had a pesky pimple play party-pooper on your face right before a big day? Ugh! We feel you! 😩
Pimples, acne, zits – they go by many names, but one thing's for sure, they are a perfect recipe for a bad mood and spoilt day!
But guess what? The war is not lost, as we are here with the two strongest pimple fighters - Green Tea 🍵 and Salicylic Acid! 🧖♀️
Let’s break them down separately!
The subtle magic of green tea!
For sure, drinking green tea not only helps get you that perfect figure💃 but also keeps many diseases at bay. (yes, just like that!)
But let us tell you that it is a superhero for your skin too 🦸:-
Green tea is packed with antioxidants that
🌟calm your skin down,
🌟reduce irritation,
🌟fight off signs of aging
🌟soothe your skin
🌟control oil production
Also, it acts like a bouncer for your pores to keep them clear and prevent acne from crashing the party. 🦠(Now that is what you need!)
Looks like a win, right?
Wait, hear me out, coz now we have another equally powerful ingredient, that can change your skin for the better.
Meet salicylic acid! 🌳
Salicylic Acid, a BHA, is the cool kid on the block – it dives deep into the pores to flush out all gunk and impurities.
It's like that magic eraser that penetrates into your skin to remove dead skin cells, excess sebum, and clogged pores to tackle acne right at the source. 🧼✨
But which one should you pick?🤜💥
This could really be a tricky question, isn’t it?
Honestly, your choice significantly depends on your skin type and concern. (yes, the same usual stuff 🙄)
but let’s break it down!
Green tea is perfect for oily acne-prone, sensitive skin that has fewer, occasional acne.
Salicylic acid is better for acne-prone skin, frequented by whiteheads, blackheads, and active acne.
In short, if you have oily skin and tend to get acne once in a while, opt for green tea in your routine. But if you have acne-prone skin and are frequently attacked by active, inflamed acne, make salicylic acid your BFF!
What do we recommend?
Get the best of both worlds and include both in your skincare routine.
While salicylic acid will take down the acne troublemakers (read clogged pores and dead skin), green tea will control sebum production, and keep your skin calm and under control;
just like the Avengers of skincare right on your face! 💥💚🌟
Want to try something out?
We have the best formulations for oily skin and pesky acne ( Drum rolls!).
Try our green tea range which includes -
Green Tea Pore Cleansing Face Wash,
Green Tea Oil-Free Moisturizer,
Green Tea Day-Light Sunscreen Gel SPF 35 PA+++

Or just dive into the targeted active acne-fighting salicylic acid which includes
1% Encapsulated Salicylic Acid Foaming Face Wash,
2% Encapsulated Salicylic Acid Face Serum,

4 intriguing facts about skin barrier every Plumster should know
16th October, 2023
Hello Plumsters,
We're back with another edition of 'Beauty Simplified,' 📋 where we dive into skincare topics that might have piqued your curiosity and you need answers for.
Today, we're here to demystify a lesser-known yet crucial subject: THE SKIN BARRIER
But first… What is skin barrier?
If you enjoy watching influencers and celebrities discuss their skincare routines on social media (after all, it's therapeutic, right?), you've likely encountered the buzzword "skin barrier."
Leading actors have shared the importance of skin barrier, creating a chain reaction where everyone’s been talking about it. And as a Plumster, we think you MUST know all about it, too!
In simple terms, the skin barrier is the outermost layer of your skin that fiercely shields it against external aggressors.
It's like your skin’s guardian angel 🧚 that looks after your skin 24/7 (not in a creepy way of course!) and wards off pollutants and allergens, while retaining moisture, keeping your skin plump, healthy, and hydrated.
Here are FOUR intriguing facts that might surprise you about skin barrier:
Fact 1: Strong, but Easily Damaged
While the defense of the skin barrier is strong, it's also fragile and susceptible to damage.
Skin barrier damage can result from excessive exfoliation, the use of too many skincare products, long hot showers 🛀, extreme temperatures, incorrect use of active ingredients, and even waxing.
Furthermore, illnesses, genetic conditions, eczema, smoking, and stress can disrupt your skin barrier.
But the best part is that you can easily identify a compromised barrier and work on its repair.
- Sudden acne breakouts,
- Flaky or dehydrated skin,
- Rough and uneven texture,
- Inflammation,
- Redness
—anything that makes you wonder why your skin is reacting differently is a sign of a compromised skin barrier, and you should take action promptly.
P.s.. If you think you have sensitive skin, there's a high chance you've had a compromised skin barrier for some time.
Fact 2: Repairs Itself
Surprisingly, the skin barrier can repair itself (unlike your broken heart, 💔). Isn't that interesting?
Once you stop using products that harm your skin, your skin barrier can recover in two to three weeks, depending on the extent of the damage, much like the rest of your body.
But, to aid in healing, keep away from active ingredients, fragrances, harsh chemicals, and treatments, and avoid exposing your skin to extreme temperatures and harsh sun.
Fact 3: It's Easier to Protect Your Skin Barrier Than You Think
What if your skin doesn't return to normal after a few weeks? Well, in that case, you'll need to help along - gently and sensibly!
- Opt for a simple, gentle skincare routine consisting only of a cleanser, moisturizer, and sunscreen. (Alexa, start detox mode!)
- Ensure you drink enough water to replenish lost hydration.
- Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize! It is crucial to hydrate your skin adequately for barrier repair to help the epidermis heal and retain moisture. Yes, for oily skin too - but use gel moisturizers!
- Stop using all kinds of scrubs, exfoliators, active ingredients, harsh cleansers, etc.
Incorporate barrier-building ingredients into your skincare routine.
Choose ceramide moisturizers and moisture-rich face creams that include hyaluronic acid, glycerin, and jojoba oil.
One of the best moisturizers from our range for skin barrier repair is Plum 1% Oat & Allantoin All-day Nourishing Cream.
It’s got ingredients like oats, allantoin, vitamin E, and B5. While oats strengthen your skin barrier by making it more resilient to external irritants, allantoin helps soothe dry and inflamed skin, giving you hydrated and nourished skin.
Final Takeaway!
Your skin barrier is an army of soldiers always alert on the borders, guarding you from external forces and enemies.
The more you take care of it, the easier it will be to get (closer to) that celebrity-inspired dewy look every day.
