DIY: Glowing skin in 4 easy steps

Hello there!

Don’t we all love going to the salon/spa? Not just to give our skin some attention, but also because it serves as a much-needed break! And who doesn’t like a little pampering once in a while?

But with all the festivities around the corner, we don’t always find the time to visit the beauty parlour though. How is one supposed to look glowing when you have no time for elaborate facial treatments? Worry not!  You’re in safe hands. We bring to you a super-easy 4-step mini-facial that you can do in just 25- minutes in the comfort of your home. We promise, this festive season, you’ll glow! Let’s jump straight into it, shall we?

What you need: Cleanser/Face wash, Scrub, Moisturizing Day Cream, Mask

Also: Hair band, Cotton pads, soft towel, 2 slices of cucumber and most importantly 25 minutes of ME time.

Begin with tying up your hair – pull it back and secure it with pins/ hair band. Wear a band, or tie scarf to cover hair tips. Also remember to wash your hands well before you start.

Step 1- Cleansing: Gently cleanse your face with a cleansing lotion to remove topical (top layer) dirt and grime. In case you don’t have a cleansing lotion, you could use a mild face wash.  Don’t over-rub your face in this step. Pat your face dry. If you haven't, already, check out our 2-minute tutorial on getting the perfect cleanse.

Step 2- Exfoliation: Take out a little face scrub (not body scrub) in your palm, and start applying it on a small section of your face like chin or forehead. Move fingers upward- outward in a circular motion. You can start with the forehead, then move to the chin and then cheeks. Continue this for 3-4 minutes. If the scrub feels dried out or hard, use a little water to make it moisten it. Never rub harshly.

Now wash your face with running water and pat it dry with soft towel.

Step 3- Moisturising: Take out a little massage cream in small bowl. Using the 5-dot method, spread the cream all over your face. Now take some more cream and start massaging your face. You should always massage gently and in the upward direction. You can start with the neck, then move towards your lip-chin area. Proceed to your nose and cheek and then to the ear area. Be extra gentle near the eyes. Finally massage your forehead. If you have oily skin, use a moisturizer specially designed for oily skin or go for a gel.

Plum Tip: Try warming your hands by rubbing them together before you start massaging. It’ll make the massaging process easy & effective.

After the massage, take a break for a few minutes. Keep your eyes closed and allow the cream to sink in.

Now, wipe off any extra cream with a moistened cotton pad. Do this twice since your skin should be clean for the next step - mask application. There should be no film of cream on the face.

Plum Tip: If there is extra cream left in the bowl, it’s not a great idea to put it back in tube/jar. Instead, moisturize your arms or feet with it.

Step 4- Mask: Take a small amount on your palm and start applying the mask on your face using your moistened index, middle and ring fingers. Alternatively, you could also use a hair-mask brush for application. Start applying mask from neck and move upwards. Apply all over your face. Avoid the area near your eyes and lips. Apply a slightly thicker layer on your forehead and on your chin. Now place a couple of cucumber slices on your eyes and sit back and allow it to dry. After 15-20 mins, wash with running water. Splash water generously. Pat your face dry with a towel.

TA-DAA! You just got yourself beautiful, glowing skin!

Plum Tip: Follow this up with a sunscreen (if the sun is still up) or moisturiser to keep your skin hydrated & glowing.

You’re all set! Strut away & show off your gorgeous glowing skin. May the festivities begin!

Greetings of the season to you all!
