While genetics play an important role in determining your hair type, diet, environment and the products you use are essential in maintaining those tresses on a day to day basis. While there are many shortcuts and products that help you maintain your mane, experts opine that caring for your hair is a daily task and not a one-time job.
1. Wash oily hair more frequently
How often you wash your hair should be based on how much oil your scalp produces. This is important to maintain the natural oil of your scalp while also keeping it clean and fresh. If your scalp is oily, you are advised to wash it once in two days. If you have chemically treated hair, your hair can be on a drier side and so you shouldn’t wash it frequently. Presence of flakes in hair, should be shampooed enough with the product that best suits your skin type.
2. Use conditioner after every shampoo
A conditioner or a hair mask is a must unless you use a “2-in-1” shampoo, which cleans and conditions hair at the same time. Using a conditioner can significantly improve the look of damaged hair while giving them a natural bounce and lustre. by increasing shine. Conditioner is also said to provide protection from harmful UV rays. However, it is always recommended to use conditioner on the tips of your hair rather than roots.
3. The brushing tips
Hair that is brushed properly is healthy and smooth. Always treat hair gently when it’s wet, it is more vulnerable to breakage. Don’t rub wet hair excessively with a towel. It is always advised to let the hair dry naturally. Use a wide-tooth comb to detangle, but don’t comb too much or brush wet hair.
4. Oil your hair properly
Oiling and massaging improve blood circulation on the scalp, relax the muscles and nourish the hair. It also restores moisture content and repairs split ends. It is advised to apply warm oil and wrap your head in a towel to let the oil work its way, once in a while. Consider a hair mask to calm up the cuticle of your hair before shampooing. It helps in reducing the friction between hair strands during shampooing.
5. Trim your hair regularly
Trim your hair every 6-8 weeks to get rid of split ends. Split ends form when the hair is damaged due to heat styling, pollution, smoking, stress, etc. They decrease the voluminous look of the hair and make them look damaged and lifeless. Hair growth happens at the scalp level, but trimming ensures healthy and nourished hair.
